January 31, 2017 - All Festival Registration Forms, including Application, Participant Fee, Medical form, Release form and T-Shirt Order form are Due.
March 31, 2017 - Festival begins. Students must arrive no later than 4:30pm. Location NYA
April 1, 2017 - Faculty Showcase, First Parish Congregational Church, Yarmouth, 7:30pm.
April 2, 2017 - Student Showcase, Hannaford Hall, USM, Portland, 4pm.

What is the Maine Acoustic Festival?
The Maine Acoustic Festival is dedicated to honoring, sustaining, and developing the unique roots music traditions that have enriched America. The festival seeks to create opportunities for young musicians in New England to learn about, experience, and perform roots music at a high level with the hope that those students will carry the music throughout their lives and into their local communities, building upon those traditions in the future. Maine Acoustic Festival acknowledges the similarities and connections between these diverse musical traditions, and hopes to simultaneously honor the past and look to the future.

I would like to audition, what do I need to do?
Print and submit a completed audition application form, along with $25 and mail it to Maine Acoustic Festival, 317 Main Street, Yarmouth, ME 04096 by November 1, 2016. Don't forget to prepare your chosen audition pieces!

Who can audition?
Middle & High School students who study music in New England.

I can't make it to the live audition. Can I still participate?
Yes! We accept video auditions from any participant.Video auditions must be performed in a single, unedited take. It is not necessary to submit a professionally produced recording, but the sound quality should be good. Applicants should make sure that proper lighting is used and that the camera shows full range of movement and use of instrument and/or voice. Please introduce yourself and the audition piece at the beginning of each video.

How much does it cost to participate?
It costs $210 to participate in the festival, plus a $25 audition fee. This includes all activities, food, and housing if needed! Financial Aid is available, please contact us directly for more information.

I'm participating this year, what do I do between now and April?
Registration packets must be completed and returned to MAF no later than January 31, 2017. Make sure to regularly check your email, the MAF web page and the MAF Facebook Page for important updates.

What do I bring?
Singers: Music, and/or lyric sheet.
Instrumentalists: Music, instruments, extra strings, picks, tuners etc. Bassists and cellists need rock stops to protect floors.

What do I wear?
Wear neat and comfortable clothing, appropriate for rehearsing on April 1st & 2nd. For the Student Showcase Performance on April 3rd, please bring clothing that is appropriate performance attire..

Where and when is registration?
Registration/Check-in will be held between 4:30pm-5:00pm on Friday, March 31st at NYA. All students are expected to have completed the Registration/Check-in process by 4:45pm.

Where will I stay during the festival?
Traveling Festival participants are welcome to stay with their families at a local hotel or Bed & Breakfast, or be placed in a home with another local musician who will be participating in the Festival. Please indicate on the Registration Form whether you will be staying with your family or would like to participate in an arranged home stay.

Can I host a participant?
Yes! We are always in need of friendly host family looking to host a fellow Festival participant. Please indicate on your registration form if you are interesting in hosting!

Can I volunteer for the festival?
Yes! We are always looking for friendly folks to help us out during the festival. Please contact us directly if you are interested in volunteering.

Where will we eat?
Families/hosts are responsible for providing dinner for their child/host child prior to festival check-in. Families/hosts are also responsible for providing breakfast prior to morning arrival on Saturday and Sunday. Lunches will be provided by Maine Acoustic Festival on Saturday and Sunday, and a light snack will be provided to participants on Friday evening before the faculty show. Students are asked to bring their own water and snacks. We are unable to guarantee food that is vegan, dairy free, gluten free, nut free,,etc. Please consider bringing your own meals if your diet is very specific.

Where will my stuff be stored?
Designated storage spaces (for cases, instruments, coats etc) will be assigned to students at registration. All items must be clearly labeled with your name and contact information. All items must be safely stored to prevent damage or injury. Please do not bring any additional valuables that could be lost or damaged during the festival.

When are the performances?
Faculty Showcase Saturday April 1, 2017 7:30pm at First Parish Congregational Church, Yarmouth.
Student Showcase Sunday April 2, 2017 4pm at Hannaford Hall, USM, Portland
